The National Archives
Particulalry good for war diaries, some of which are in the process of being digitized
The British Library
Incorporates the former India Office Library and Records. You will need to apply for a Reader's Ticket to gain access to the material
The National Army Museum
A leading authority on the history of the British Army and the Indian Army. Houses the J L Chapple Archive and Collection at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. A first class museum due to re-open late 2016

Britain's only national museum dedicated wholly to aviation - at Cosford and London
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission
Commemorates those who sacrificed their lives in the First and the Second World Wars, including those from undivided India
USI CAFHR and MEA - India in WW1
A joint USI-MEA project commemorating India's role in the First World War
USI CAFHR - Indian Faces of the Great War
A follow-on from the previous site, this shows a number of pictures of Indian servicemen from the Great War and invites further contributions from readers
Centre of South Asian Studies - Cambridge
The archive has a particularly good collection of film, including the Indian Army in Burma in WW2

The consortium of Indian military and defence-related websites.
Jullundur Brigade Association
Commemorates the service of 1st Battalion the Manchester Regiment, 47th Sikhs and 59th (Scinde) Rifles Frontier Force Regiment who made up the main part of the Jullundur Brigade.
Machine Gun Corps Research Database
Contains some information on over 100,000 former MGC personnel. It also supports the MGC Old Comrades Association
Families in British India Society
Probably the lead organisation for genealogists interested in family history during the time of the Raj.
British Association for Cemeteries in South Asia
As its name suggests, primarily interested in cemeteries in South Asia, but its journal Chowkidar is often a useful pointer to other aspects of Indian military history

The Great War in Africa Association
A largely forgotten Theatre of the Great War, this Association serves to correct that deficiency
Empire, Faith & War: The Sikhs and World War One
A focus on the Sikh contribution to the Great War. It is looking to sign up Citizen Historians to tell stories of their direct ancestors and others with whom they may have a connection (eg from the same village), who were involved in WW1. Also happy to include non-Sikhs who served alongside Sikhs.
